D-style
The style that almost can’t not hear. It is intrinsic, responding directly to what is heard. If they really don’t want to hear what you say, this style will start talking louder and louder, drowning you out.
I-style
When something is harmful or mean or a disagreement that could turn into a fight, this style deliberately does not want to hear it. They will avoid it, walk away from it, and even literally put fingers in their ears.
S-style
From this style, not wanting to hear (read; to listen) may stem from some form of stubbornness. For example, continuing to do as you always do, as some kind of denial mechanism.
C-style
This style makes a conscious decision not to hear something. Doesn’t want to pay attention to it or doesn’t want to interact with that person. At the time, that is because does hear everything.
