For years I've used Q4 Profiles' DISC in my work as a coach. For my coachees the DISC profile is a wonderful way to understand themselves better. 'A whole world opened up for me,' they often tell me. And that's what it's all about!

Experiences with EQ-i 2.0

Partners who work with EQ-i 2.0 on what the instrument adds to their guidance.

What – what do you use EQ-i for? I use EQ-i for individual questions around leadership, personal development and collaboration within teams. It helps my coachee gain insight into their behaviour, their patterns and the impact these have on others.

Why – why work with EQ-i? EQ-i truly provides a starting point for someone's development. Where DISC mainly shows how you naturally behave and communicate, EQ-i helps explain that behaviour: which emotions, beliefs and skills play a role for me? And that combination leads to wonderful conversations.

How – how do you use EQ-i in practice? I use both instruments as a basis for reflection and dialogue. DISC helps make behaviour and communication recognisable; EQ-i deepens that with insight into emotional intelligence. I connect the outcomes to concrete situations and translate the coachee's own insights into achievable actions. That leads to more conscious choices and more effective behaviour.

Who – who is it valuable for? For leaders and professionals who want to grow in personal leadership, collaboration and communication. The combination of DISC and EQ-i offers a complete picture: DISC shows how you behave, EQ-i helps explain why — and where you can grow.

ARAstrid RuttenView profile

What – I use EQ-i when personal leadership, communication, collaboration or performing under pressure is at stake. It helps me make visible how someone recognises emotions, deals with them and how that influences choices, behaviour and relationships.

Why – I work with EQ-i because behaviour never tells the whole story. At HumanHabits, we look not only at what someone does, but also at why they do it. Emotions are not an obstacle to leadership; they are information. EQ-i gives me a deeper layer of self-awareness and helps people take more conscious responsibility for their behaviour and impact.

How – In coaching and training I use EQ-i as a mirror alongside DISC behavioural styles, values and standards, and personal and professional interests. DISC shows which behavioural preferences someone has; EQ-i helps explain how someone influences themselves and others emotionally. That creates room to respond less automatically and more consciously under pressure. The result is more self-direction, better communication, more trust and stronger collaboration.

Who – EQ-i is valuable for leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, coaches and anyone who wants to increase their positive influence on others, because personal leadership starts with knowing yourself.

For me the combination is essential: DISC shows how you tend to act. EQ-i helps you consciously choose how you want to act. That is where personal leadership begins.

I use the EQ-i 2.0 in coaching, leadership and team development, especially when people want to understand better what plays a role beneath the surface in their behaviour, their collaboration and their functioning under pressure.

For me, sustainable development starts with self-awareness. EQ-i makes visible and discussable how someone handles themselves, emotions and relationships, and where there is strength and room to grow. Precisely because it looks beyond visible behaviour, it adds depth and often provides surprisingly clear starting points for real change.

In practice I mainly use the outcomes as the starting point for an in-depth conversation. We connect them to recognisable situations from work and life: what helps you, where does your strength lie, what happens under pressure and what does that ask of your development? From there we translate insight into concrete behaviour and results.

I regularly combine EQ-i with DISC. Where DISC mainly gives insight into behavioural preferences, EQ-i helps to look a layer deeper at what influences behaviour.

Especially for professionals, managers and teams who want to grow consciously and sustainably, I find that particularly valuable.

Martin HoeveMartin HoeveView profile

In my coaching I regularly use both DISC and the EQ-i 2.0. DISC gives insight into preferred behaviour, communication, collaboration and decision-making. The combination with EQ-i appeals to me because the two instruments complement each other. Where DISC makes visible what someone does, EQ-i helps explain which emotional processes play a role in it.

In practice, I see that behaviour is not determined by preferences alone. Emotions often have an influence, especially when someone is under pressure. EQ-i makes these processes visible and therefore discussable, while offering concrete starting points for development and finding greater balance. That helps to formulate targeted development goals together with the coachee.

The combination of DISC and EQ-i increases self-awareness. People gain a better view not only of how they come across to others, but also of what is happening inside. That allows them to make more conscious choices in their behaviour.

For professionals, managers and teams who want to develop, I see EQ-i as a highly valuable instrument. The power of EQ-i lies in making visible what happens beneath behaviour. Once people understand that better, they are often better able to consciously influence their behaviour and actually achieve their development goals.

MBMartin Boers

EQ-i is a valuable instrument to me, because dealing well with emotions is an important foundation for mental health, personal leadership and sustainable employability. Where DISC shows what you need to thrive, EQ-i shows how emotions influence everyday functioning.

I mainly use EQ-i with managers, team leaders and professionals who experience stress, keep falling into the same pitfall or want to take a next step in their career. The coaching question differs, but it often comes down to wanting more self-confidence, standing firmer in challenging situations, dealing better with conflict and difficult situations, or daring to set boundaries.

What appeals to me about EQ-i is that it makes visible not only opportunities for development, but above all someone's strength. That creates recognition and concrete tools with which a coachee can start giving direction to their own personal growth.

In my practice I combine EQ-i with insights from Nonviolent Communication. The effect? People more often dare to speak up, including in difficult conversations, take a position with far more strength and conviction, and trust their own qualities again. That is exactly why EQ-i is valuable for anyone who wants to stay strong and mentally healthy.

The key to good (personal) leadership lies in the ability to integrate your head = IQ with your heart = EQ.

Communication is always the common thread in everything you do. To become aware of how you communicate and what effect this has on the other person, it is very valuable to learn more about yourself and your conscious and subconscious patterns. Your EQ, emotional intelligence, is a very important part of this.

The key to good (personal) leadership lies in the ability to integrate your head = IQ with your heart = EQ.

That is why I became certified in EQ-i 2.0 through Q4 Profiles, under licence from Multi-Health Systems Inc. (MHS). It is one of the most reliable and extensively researched assessment instruments in this field. Its use is reserved for psychologists (GZ or KP), psychiatrists, or explicitly certified individuals. It provides me as a coach and my coachee with a reliable profile in which the connections between thinking and doing become visible, especially when combined with the DISC profile.

I use the EQ-i profile in coaching and in personal journeys of development, growth and insight into my own actions.

EQ-i is for everyone who wants to get to know themselves better.
