Ping!

Ping!

You’re busy with something and your phone lights up. Do you have a quick look, reply straight away, or leave it be? How do the different styles handle this?

C
C-Conscientious
Conscientious

Will check whether a notification is relevant and turn off unnecessary ones. Wants to answer a question carefully. As a result, even a short message can end up requiring a bit of research.

D
D-Dominant
Dominant

Quickly checks it: ‘Do I need to do anything about this?’ Either deals with the message briefly or puts the phone away. May be annoyed by any interruption, even though their own reply might well be just one word.

S
S-Steady
Steady

Prefers to finish the task they’re currently focused on first. A message from someone who needs something can be hard to ignore: they’ll reply quickly, or else the other person will be left waiting. This means the other person sometimes gets priority without realising it.

I
I-Influential
Influential

A message triggers curiosity: who’s it from, what’s going on? Responds readily and sends a friendly reply. Before you know it, three conversations are going on at once, and the original task is still waiting.

It's easy enough to have a quick look and reply; do you notice when this causes you to lose focus on what you were actually doing?
